Webinar: Strengthening Regional Responses to Antimalarial Drug Resistance in Africa

📅 Date: 24 June 2025, 14:00 – 15:30 CAT (UTC+02:00)

📍 Format: virtual

Why join?

Antimalarial drug resistance is a growing issue in East and Southern Africa. It requires cross-border cooperation that includes the sharing of the latest data on antimalarial resistance and a joint, coordinated strategy to respond to the evolving situation. The MARC SE-Africa consortium has played a key role in facilitating a consensus-building process that resulted in a regional detailed action plan for responding to antimalarial drug resistance in East Africa. This strategic document was recently endorsed by the region’s ministers of health, underscoring the need for such collaboration and enhancing its potential impact.

At the webinar, Dr Eulambius Mlugu, a senior researcher at the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences, will speak about this experience and how the action plan was created. He will be joined by Dr Donnie Mategula, a research fellow at the Malawi-Liverpool Wellcome Trust, who will discuss how the lessons learned from this process can be applied in creating an action plan and strengthening regional collaboration in Southern Africa.
